When you have moved home from one place to another, you have only gotten through half the battle. After that, you are going to have to go through the process of unpacking when you reach the other side. There is no doubt that this can be a complicated series of steps as well, which is why this guide is designed to make it all that little bit easier with a few top tips that you can follow.
Clean every room first
If you are moving into a brand new house, you would hope that it is already relatively clean, but if you are moving into one that has already been lived in or a rental property, there is every chance that it is not as spic and span as you would otherwise like. With this in mind, it is certainly worth cleaning every room extensively first. This way, you are preventing the need to do it all further down the line. Also, you don’t want all of your stuff to end up getting dirty.
Open up your box of essentials
It may be that it is right at the end of a long day when you eventually reach your new place. Therefore, you will only want to have the essentials you need before going to bed. Ideally, you will have packed up a box of essentials as this is going to prevent the need to go rooting through all of your different boxes to pick up your toothpaste. You are likely to also need a few bedroom essentials, such as some clean sheets for your bed. You will then be more than ready to tackle the rest of the unpacking process after you have had a good night’s sleep.
Unpack the bathroom items
There are some rooms that are bound to be more complicated than others to unpack and get into a good state. Hopefully, the bathroom should be a fairly easy proposition. In fact, you may even find that you need to buy a whole load of new products to stock it up with. Ultimately, as this is such a widely used room in the house, it makes sense for it to be the first major one that you get into a usable state.
Arrange the furniture
Hopefully, your house removals company will have already gone through the process of putting the furniture in the right rooms for you. It is definitely worth arranging all of this first before you go through the smaller items and attempt to arrange anything else. Hopefully, you have also done your measurements, as this is going to help ensure that everything fits comfortably in the space.
Arrange the closets
Now that the furniture is in place, you should have a load of empty closets that you are ready to start filling up with your stuff. Obviously, this is going to take a bit of time, but it is more than worth getting right to begin with. Of course, everyone has their own individual way of organizing their closet stuff. If you just dump everything inside at this point, you are bound to start creating more work for yourself further down the line. This will also be a good test of exactly how much storage space you currently have to spare and whether you need any more at all.
Get the cabinets and bookshelves sorted
Now that a lot of the clothes are already taken care of, it is going to be a case of ensuring that there is a place for everything else. Books often take up a bulky part of the moving process, which is why it is worth getting these on their shelves. You can also go through the process of filling up the cabinets in the kitchen with all of the necessary implements. Again, it is at this stage that it is certainly worth organizing it all as you see fit. You may well want to model what you have done on your previous property, or it could be the case that you are looking for an entirely different system.
Start the decorating
After you have unpacked the bulk of your items, you are then going to need to decorate the place with anything that you would like to put up on the walls. At the same time, you also need to think about photos, mementos, and anything else that you would like to put around to make the whole place a lot more homely.
