How to Keep Your Precious Jewelry Shiny

Buying jewelry is not a cheap affair but a significant fashion investment, especially for women. It can spice up your usual outfit and even make you look more elegant in your formal attire. Nowadays, jewelers in Utah do not only sell gold, diamond, or silver jewelry. Instead, jewelry has become more diverse and can also be used outside formal occasions.

Regardless of what type of jewelry you have, it is crucial to keep it in its best condition. This includes knowing the right way of cleaning your jewelry pieces to make them bright and shiny, even for many years. However, it can be a little challenging to clean jewelry as dirt and grime can accumulate deeply into crevices. So is there a way to properly clean your jewelry by yourself?

Cleaning different kinds of jewelry

There are cleaning methods for different types of jewelry, such as silver, gold, pearls, gems, and more. For example, experts recommend cleaning silver jewelry using silver polish or wipes. These can be readily available online if you do not want to go outside to buy one.

When it comes to gold jewelry, including bracelets and earrings, you can use dish soap diluted in warm water. Soak the pieces of jewelry for around five minutes, take the pieces out, and then use a toothbrush to clean up any lodged dirt within the jewelry’s crevices. Rinse them all with water and dry using a soft cloth.

For gemstones like emeralds, sapphires, diamonds, or rubies, you can clean them like you clean gold jewelry. But instead, you should use seltzer water to mix with dish soap. This cleaning mixture can help loosen up dirt so that you can clean it better. Use a toothbrush to brush the stones for a sparkly finish!

Jewelry cleaners you can find in your home

On one hand, you can buy home jewelry cleaners online or in jewelry stores near you. On the other hand, you can also use household items in cleaning your precious jewelry collection. Here are some household items you can use to clean your beloved jewelry:

  1. Ammonia

Soak your jewelry for 10 minutes in a cup of warm water mixed with half a cup of clear ammonia. Wipe them clean using a soft cloth and let them dry before storing or using it. However, do not use this solution in pearl jewelry as it can damage its surface.

  1. Baking soda

Using two tablespoons water and ¼ cup of baking soda (made into a thick paste), apply the mixture onto jewelry using a damp sponge. Rub it gently, rinse thoroughly, and dry after applying the paste.

  1. Beer

Pour some beer (not the dark ale type) on a soft cloth and gently rub it on the jewelry. Dry the pieces with a separate dry cloth for a sparkly finish.

  1. Toothpaste

Aside from making your teeth white (at least that’s what the brands usually advertise), you can also use toothpaste to clean your jewelry. Put a small amount of toothpaste on a spare toothbrush, then brush it on your jewelry pieces. Use a separate damp cloth to clean off the paste residue.

Make it a habit to clean and store your jewelry properly to maintain its shine for many years to come!
